When mining projects are put into production, the
focus is generally 100% on the technical solution.
- Is the equipment running well?
- Is its on-line time as high as forecast?
- Does the equipment provide projected incremental
production increases?
The write-ups for AFE’s, RFA, etc. include design
specs, equipment costs, delivery schedules, etc. The scope of work
will include all foreseen technical issues.
The problem is
that the people-equipment interfaces – maintenance practices, planned
operating delays, and control and response plans to drive consistent
operation, safety standards, etc. – are often omitted. While the
technical solution is often the reason for approving a project,
a project’s post-installation’s success is often achieved, sustained
or jeopardized by activities of people that are
critical to proper equipment operation, maintenance and consistent
production.
